Up to 20 firefighters tackled a fire at a detached property called Saint Omer at The Humpy, Badlake Hill, Dawlish. The fire which started in the bathroom cracked windows and melted the shower.
Two crews from Dawlish, Teignmouth and Newton Abbot dealt with the blaze. Neighbours heard the fire alarm and went to see what was going on, they saw smoke coming out of the building and called the fire brigade.
Dawlish station commander Dave Williams said "They are lucky they had smoke alarms because otherwise no one would have noticed the fire until it started coming through the roof and by then it would have been too late"
