Sergeant Adam Swift was awarded the Military Cross for two seperate incidents in which he charged at Taliban positions. In October last year, he and his men lay hidden just 20m from five insurgents so they could watch what they were doing and allow a trapped group of comrades to escape. Five months later, he charged across open ground under fire so stretcher bearers could recover a casualty. Sgt Swift 31, originally from Dawlish now living in Bournemouth has served in Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan.
