A trainee manager employed by Tesco has been exposed as a convicted paedophile.

At the time of his offences, Daniel Luckman lived at Newlands in Dawlish, he had served a 15 month jail sentence for child porn offences after being convicted in 2003 and also he had been placed on the sex offenders' register, but Luckman failed to tell his bosses when he was taken on by Tesco Metro stores in Paignton.

Luckman rose to the ranks of a £15,000 per year trainee manager until a whistle-blower told his bosses about his past.

He was suspended last month while local managers looked further into the case but was then reinstated this week until senior bosses suspended him again after learning of this crimes.

A spokesman from Tesco told the Echo: "We can confirm that Daniel Luckman was employed at our store and that he failed to declare his court conviction when he applied for his post."

"But the fact that you have committed a crime does not automatically rule you out of a job."

"This does not only apply to Tesco but every other company in this country."

"I can say that we are taking this matter extremely seriously and carrying out a full and urgent investigation."

"The member of staff concerned is currently suspended pending the outcome of the investigation."

Luckman had hoarded 3,000 pictures on his computer, of the most serious kind, categorised as a level 5.

He had also been running a website selling child porn photos to other paedophiles.

His home at Dawlish was raided in August 2002 and computer equipment, videos and books were seized.

Luckman pleaded guilty to five counts of making indecent photographs and five counts of distributing them in September 2003, when he was aged 20.
