A woman who ran a Dawlish play scheme for children with special needs has called for local councillors to provide more help for families with disabled children.Margaret Noel, from the Happy Holidays play scheme, said she was forced to close her venture after 14 years because a lack of sufficient funding.

She said: "There is a desperate need for safe environments for the children and teenagers to go to out of school hours to provide some respite. In the 14-year period that I ran the play scheme, we had to fight for every penny required for hiring of staff and premises.

"This should not be the case. Play schemes should be funded by local authorities and the Government."
