I would like to post this article regarding the increase in anti social behaviour in Dawlish, which I believe is drink and drug related.

I live in the Town Centre, and have done so for 6 years. I along with others own my own home. On Friday night 28th September 2007, local residents on the High Street were subjected to a frightening barrage of abusive behaviour by a group of drunken people who were also likely high on drugs. Several residents had their private property seriously damaged, and a local pub had equipment broken. The landlord of this pub stated the drunks had not come from his establishment. On Saturday, a gang of young people apparently returned to the scene of damage and taunted an elderly couple and took photos of their broken wall, and laughed!

I would like to say, that this is a seriously worrying trend, and it appears that the residents of Dawlish are getting very little support from the local police. The local residents have been told that no action is being taken against the drunk who caused serious damage to their property because the person had no previous convictions? This begs the question, what redress do law abiding, hard working, tax paying people have against thugs who have little or no regard for social decency or the property of others. Why are we paying such high levels of council tax for very little in return. What kind of society are we living in, that dictates that drunks and drug addicts can get away with this kind of behavour when those of us who work hard for a living have to PAY for the outcome of their behaviour.

If any one reading this has any 'clout' locally, I would be extremely grateful if you could lobby the local town council or even Teignbridge council on our behalves.
