Brixham Coastguards dealt with three hoax calls yesterday, which tied up valuable resources which could have been needed for real emergencies. The first call came in to the operations room as a 999 call at 2.30 pm this afternoon. The caller reported that a person was hanging over a cliff and needed immediate assistance. However, the Coastguard quickly realised that the informant was a hoaxer since the call was traced back to the job centre is St Austell. No resources were tasked.

Shortly afterwards at 5.10 pm another call was received reporting that two children were in trouble in a rubber ring at Langstone Rock, Dawlish. Three lifeboats - the Teignmouth and Exmouth RNLI lifeboats and Warren Rescue inshore boat were requested to launch. The area was searched by units with nothing found.
