Sightings of rare wildlife at Dawlish Warren National Nature Reserve are continuing to cause surprises and excitement for bird lovers. Even though it is now late in the year, the exceptional autumn migration is still turning up unusual bird species and site-record breaking bird counts. In addition to the huge numbers of thrushes and finches that passed through in late October, the Teignbridge Council reserve has provided some exciting wildlife watching. A few lucky visitors to the Warren have enjoyed rare bird sightings including a passing red kite, a short-toed lark, several grey phalarope, the occasional little auk and even hawkfinches and crossbills. Even common birds have joined in the fun, with the wood pigeon count hitting a site record of 6,013.
