The mayor of Dawlish, Cllr Graham Price, has officially opened the town's new community drop-in centre. Cllr Price said he was pleased to see the centre finally opening after a five-year battle to get it for Dawlish. More than 35 people attended the opening of the new centre, which has been named Open Daw. It is in the vestibule of the town's Methodist Church. Margaret Noel, of Dawlish Library, said: "The opening was very well attended and a local resident, Ms Kathy Ford, won our competition to name the new centre. "She received a basket of fruit as a prize after coming up with the winning name." The centre has been set up following a study commissioned by the Dawlish Inter-Agencies Forum five years ago into the needs of older people.
