A lorry shed a barrel on the A38 yesterday, spilling 100 litres of a highly flammable resin over the road. Two fire crews from Exeter and one from Topsham attended the scene on the northbound side of Haldon Hill, shortly after 3pm. Firefighters wearing protective clothing and breathing apparatus cleaned up the spillage, while police closed one lane and directed traffic around the liquid. Minor traffic hold-ups were caused as the emergency services tried to deal with the obstruction. But within three hours, the situation had been resolved.
