VOLUNTEERS keeping Dawlish clean have received a welcome boost. Dawlish Against Plastic has been handed a £500 donation from a housebuilding firm to help keep Dawlish beaches clean. Formed in 2019, Dawlish Against Plastic established regular beach cleans across the town and to reduce plastic waste.

NEWTON Abbot MP Martin Wrigley has resigned his seat on Dawlish Town Council. Mr Wrigley, who was elected as MP for the Newton Abbot constituency last year, held the North East ward seat for 10 years and served as Mayor.

Dawlish Chamber of Trade and Commerce launched a Small Business Academy on Monday (February 10) to help local entrepreneurs develop and grow. Businesses from around Dawlish and beyond can book sessions covering everything from marketing to human resources.

TWO Dawlish shop units have been sold at auction. The adjacent properties in The Strand went under the hammer a few weeks ago and were quickly snapped up. The sales to investors will not affect the current tenants who will remain operating in the premises.

TO mark this week’s National Apprenticeship Week an assistant site manager at Vistry Group is keen to highlight the apprenticeship route into the industry after it gave him his career break.

DAWLISH youngster Olivia Steer enjoyed a superb 2024 on the track and she has already become a National Champion in 2025. Held in Sheffield, at the National Sports Institute’s indoor athletics track, Olivia took on the National Indoor Age Group Championships, an event put on by England Athletics.

TWO people were arrested in Teignmouth after police pulled over a van. The arrests were part of action by the Teignmouth and Dawlish neighbourhood police team. Earlier, officers assisted the Trading Standards team visiting commercial premises in the town.

IT was a busy weekend for Teignbridge’s firefighters as they were called out three times across two days. Firefighters from Ashburton, Bovey Tracey, Dawlish and Newton Abbot saw action across February 7 through to February 8.

THE FUTURE is looking bright in Dawlish as long-awaited plans for new lighting are finally to take a step forward. Decorative lighting had been a feature of the Brook which runs through the town for decades.

An early morning networking event in Dawlish will be celebrating its first anniversary later this month. The Dawlish Business Breakfast, which takes place between 7am and 9am at the Smugglers Inn is a monthly networking event where local businesses can start the day networking over a bacon butty and plenty of tea and coffee.
