Just a thought for anyone posting a comment on that site. If the winning towns are to end up on a TV "makeover" programme then the selectors will I suspect be looking for unique points of interest for a TV audience - 12 "identical" towns with run-down shopping centre on high street and lots of charity shops wouldn't make for good TV. A lot of support there for Lancing but I couldn't see much there for towns in SW so maybe we're in with a chance if we can rally local support here.

10am. If you're quick you might just catch the crusade knight complete with chain mail and wooden horse who should just be reaching Dawlish town centre. He is walking from Lands End to Poland, raising money for one of the Armed Forces charities. He looked tired when I passed him so am sure he'd appreciate more words of encouragement and a donation to his collection box.

I believe that the true Cornish pasty was divided into two - one half meat/veg and the other half jam. Does the new VAT rule apply to both parts?

I see that this debacle is now being referred to as "Pastygate" in the national media! I wonder if there'll be a film and who'll play the equivalent roles of Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford?

After one of the warmest Marches in recent history it's salutary to look back to March 1891 when there was snow for almost the whole month - still 2-3 ft left on 29th March along Shepherds Lane (between Teignmouth and Bishops). Global warming or just normal climate fluctuation?

@Tracy 2nd question - they say the pen is mightier than the sword. Thankfully not a bomb - have there been any theories yet about why it was there? April fools hoax?

That might also explain the ambulance and two ambulance cars with lights flashing I saw heading towards Dawlish along the Teignmouth Road at about 5pm today.
