A GROUND-BREAKING new allotment project to help with mental health has been launched in Dawlish. A ‘social prescribing’ plot has been earmarked at Browns Bridge allotments, thought to be the first of its kind in the area.

DAWLISH is to play host to the fourth Turn The Tide festival. The event aims to bring attention to climate change and the environment while providing a day of family fun and entertainment. Now in its fourth year, the event has been scaled back from a three day event to just one day and will take place on Bank Holiday Monday May 26 from 10am to 4pm.

DAWLISH Indoor Bowling Club brought the 2024/25 season to a celebratory close with a joyful and well-attended presentation evening at the Langstone Cliff Hotel. The event was a chance to recognise the achievements of members, both on and off the green, and to thank everyone who contributed to a successful and enjoyable season.

SEVERAL sewage alerts have been issued for beaches in Devon, including two in Teignbridge. Dawlish Town and Teignmouth Holcombe beaches have been flagged by Surfer’s Against Sewage. Storm sewage has been discharged from a sewer overflow at the two beaches within the past 48 hours, the charity’s interactive tracking map shows.

VOLUNTEERS working to improve the waterway through Dawlish have been given a boost after a kingfisher was spotted back on the water. WADE - Waterways Around the Dawlish Environment - has been told at least one of the colourful birds has been seen back in the town.

TEIGNBRIDGE District Council (TDC) are seeking charities and organisations to get involved and be part of several upcoming stall days in Teignmouth and Dawlish. Running until the end of September, the days will take place at The Lawn in Dawlish and The Den in Teignmouth.

Police have issued a warning ahead of a potential public disorder planned in Teignmouth this weekend. Teignmouth and Dawlish Police say stop searches for drugs and alcohol will be carried out and officers will be speaking to people believed to be involved in the potential disorder.

VE Day events in Dawlish came to a poignant conclusion with the lighting of a symbolic beacon on the Lawn. The evening’s events drew to a close a day of celebrations to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe.

THE new Mayor of Dawlish has been officially elected for the coming year. Cllr Anthony James will take on the role and was formally presented with the chain of office by retiring Mayor Cllr Lin Goodman-Bradbury at Dawlish Town Council’s annual meeting.

PLANS for a new Timpson pod have been submitted by a Dawlish supermarket. The Exeter Road Sainsbury’s is seeking to erect a small retail concession pod in its carpark. The pod, which will be occupied by Timpson, will be located south west of the food store.
