TOWNS in Teignbridge marked Merchant Navy Day to remember the contribution and sacrifices made by members of the service. Teignmouth Town Council and Dawlish Town Council both held events attended by civic leaders, service representatives and the town criers.

Troubled Dawlish and Teignmouth residents will find it easier to find support and advice following the launch of a ‘human signposts’ scheme. Called Coastal Connecting, the human signposts initiative offers free training for anyone who interacts with the public so they can identify people in need and direct them to the relevant support services.

MULTI-MILLION pound plans for a new village school have been announced. Students have been taught in temporary accommodation at the Hope Centre in Dawlish for the last 12 months. Now, the school has moved again to a temporary base at nearby Powderham Castle to be closer to the village for the children and their families.

A NEW £50,000 luxury glamping pod has been opened at an award-winning Dawlish holiday park. The eco-friendly Getaway Cabin as it’s called features and outdoor copper bath for guests as part of the new addition to Cofton Holidays.

DAWLISH town beach is one of four in Devon affected by recent sewage pollution. Campaign group Surfers Against Sewage say the beach has been affected by storm sewage being discharged from a sewer overflow over the last two days.

Flocks of visitors will soon be joined by flocks of birds enjoying the water and riverbanks of the Exe Estuary. The Dawlish Warren Refuge is active all year round. South East Devon Wildlife ask everyone to avoid these refuges from land and water to give birds the space they need to survive.

THREE teams from Dawlish Women Walking Football Club took part in the first-ever Devon League fixture at the Devon FA HQ in Newton Abbot, on Sunday, September 1. The competition, consisting of two leagues and 11 teams, will take place throughout the season at different venues across Devon.

MARINA Bowling Club in Dawlish held their annual finals competitions on the weekend of August 24 and 25. The gods were not kind on the Saturday morning with the green flooding as a result of the rain.
