A report on the local news said a solution had been found and work was starting again.

If i was Network Rail i would let the moaners have there way build a direct line from Exeter to Newton Abbot and close the seaward line i bet you any money they would soon change there minds.

Supposedly the work on the sea wall at Dawlish recommences this month. So what happened about the engineers checks saying the underlying sandstone was breaking. I assume they have been told they got it wrong?

Proposals for the section between Holcombe and Teignmouth in Devon are aimed at preventing the line being blocked by falling rocks from cliffs. People had been concerned the move might mean the loss of Holcombe beach. Part of the line at Dawlish, which runs along a stretch of beach, was washed away in fierce storms in 2014, leaving much of Devon and Cornwall without a railway connection to ...

@wondering . It will never happen as we don't live up North, where all the money is going.

There needs to be a line that avoids the sea ...its obvious! .. C5 seems the best plan and less expensive.. All the fuse recently about global warming .....you cant beat the sea, or can you?.

One person has been injured and travel disrupted after waves smashed the glass of a train window while on the main rail line through Devon. A spokesperson said: "The windows were smashed before the train reached Dawlish - passengers were immediately moved to other carriages - and the service carried on to Paignton." Read more... ...
