Has anyone else noticed that news stories that might put Dawlish in a bad light are not published in the Post? Two recent examples are the recent attack on a lad by two Geordies and even more surprising, a big drugs bust a few weeks back.

I wonder why?

I live 5000 miles from Dawlish, but in our newspapers yesterday was a story about an wizzened old bag in Teignmouth punching the Lady Mayoress - who looks a bit of an old slapper herself.

Yes I noticed it around the time of the drugs bust. In fact I emailed the editor to ask why. She replied that it would be covered by their court correspondent the following week. It never was.
I think that business interests may have an influence here.

Yes I agree totally. I noticed this sometime ago and I am sure it is to with the councillors' influence on the paper. They only report what they want to and miss lots of things out which are news, be it good or bad. I thought a paper was supposed to print 'the news', but it is obvious the post is influenced by some outside authority! There is definitely no denying that. Although, I must admit, I was very surprised by an article they printed about the local school's results and it was obvious they hadnt got their facts straight and they were putting the school in a bad light, when they didnt have all the facts and this was very unfair at the time and not warranted.

Unlikely to be figures of dark influence manipulating the stories.

1) The paper gets more advertising revenue if it doesn't slag off local commerce. (Eg: Just try criticising dawlish.com's advertisers and see how long your right to free speech endures)

2) For journalists its a hell of a lot easier to access feelgood stories and press releases than initiate investigations and hatchet jobs.

I never buy a newspaper national or local. Its only gossip. By the time it's printed its not news. I have local news hourly on the radio, BBC 24 news instant online and Whats on TV mag is online for TV listings. I dont spend £5 a week on daily papers inc those weekend £1 junk papers ..rather pay my broadbamd charge. I use the free Dawlish paper for packing lol.

When the controversy over CCTV was running I heard our Town Council threatened them with court action over printing the truth and now they wont accept the publics letter concerning CCTV, by the way I hope you know they dont work and night, and they only pan round when somebody is operating it in Newton Abbot. They record 24 hours a day but only at where they are pointed. So if you get mugged at night it cannot see you,the same thing during the day if it is not being operated and panning it wont see that either, unless you are lucky enough to be mugged or beaten up infront of it.
Still its only your £80.000 plus that has been spent and wasted

The cameras were probably paid for out of the regeneration money. If thats true about the council then it is disgusting we are supposed to have freedom of press
