Oh yeah, there was something else I was going to chuck into the black hole. When we moved here we had a lot of trouble finding a house. A friend told me that theres a meeting every month between the estate agents and local builders, to find out which 'character' properties are coming up, so that there mates can get in quick. I don't know if that is true or not, but it did accord with my own experience of house hunting ie turning up early to find a builder on the doorstep and houses mysteriously being bought the minute we put an offer in, after having been on the market for weeks.
'Someone was in the office when the details came in' was a frequent thing we heard.
Put me right if I'm wrong.

Something a like must go on everywhere. I remember trying to sell a property (not here) where new mortgage rules applied to houses constructed of older materials. I needed a cash buyer. the Estate Agent said 'I know a builder that will offer you half the value!' ..I sold it on my own in the end. I suppose the problem is ..staff write up the property particulars, newspaper ads.. and word gets out of good properties due to be marketed. Guess it's the old 'not what you know ..it's who you know!'

Yes I think thats true but it does seem worse down here - I suspect the Masons are very strong, for example. And if the monthly meeting thing is true then thats not just word of mouth.

I do have to agree with you on the property front ( can some one go round to mindful's and pick her up of the floor as i think they've just feinted) and as some one who;
a) can't afford to buy in dawlish and has to rent despite living in the town since being 0yrs old
b) is highly unlikely to ever be able to afford to buy their own property the way things are going.
then i do have to agree with your comments on this thread, in addition you are right about those who wear funny garments and drink tonnes of wine (have you seen their recycling box recently, I think maybe they should get a second green one) they do get insider info, and if you knew which people were members of the mason's then u'd understand why things are slow to change around here, maybe you should get in the mason's to work on the inside if you catch my drift.

I was waiting for someone to post who is FED UP at not being able to buy an over-priced property in Dawlish. Its rightfully distressing.

Even Starcross (riff raff) and Teignmouth (Mongols) is expensive !

ps Mindful is a henpecked husband not a Laydee.
