Dawlish reflections 2006

Have mixed feelings about Dawlish in 2006 following my visit last week.

1) Riff Raff

There's an area of about 100 yards radius around Somerfield where on weekends the most ghastly detritus of humanity wash up. I presume they stay in caravans in Dawlish Warren - tattooed, surly, yobbish women with their brood of social security supported kids.

2) Shapters

Its up for sale. If this was acquired by the council this is the chance for Dawlish to revolutionize its traffic flow by taking the main road up through that site rather than the hairpin opposite Woolworths. Does Dawlish Council have the vision to popose this?

3) Midland Bank

I'm all for kids centres, but in former years that baroque building would have been ideal for lawyers/solicitors. I.e something serious. The trivialization of the town continues. (but at least it won't be an amusement arcade)

4) Dog sh*t.

Now I have a toddler in tow, I unfortunately have to take this seriously. Sorry to agree with everyone that this is still a problem caused by fat-headed dog owners letting their dogs off leads and following behind at about 100 yards with a plastic bag, missing about 75% of the dump extruded.

In Oakland Park its a real challenge to deal with these cretins. If you confront them they act oblivious then get aggressive and bolshy. Frankly they deserve a thump in the face and i'm surprised there aren't more sh*t-rage punch-ups.

Is Dawlish becoming a "chav" capital? I hope not i loved going down there for my holidays, and my soon to be retired parents are looking to move to the Warren. I thought Crewe was becoming over run with these yobs! Any response would be gratefully recieved.

I also have a toddler and a 7 year old who i walk to school along secmation lane which i might add is full of dog crap, nowhere can you walk without standing in it , Council reply not our problem whos problem is it? i should send them my toddlers shoes to clean that gets covered in crap when i do let him walk along there which is not very often any more. Also last year outside the ferret a group of yobs obviously drunk started on the children yes children in the carnival where is the policing will there be some this year as im certainly not letting my kids in the carnival unless it is better policed the ages of the children were 4 and 5.
