What are user's genuine views about 'anonymous' postings on this forum and should we now put in place a compulsory sign up?

There are now a lot of very poor quality posts here and most of these are posted by users that have not signed up.

Not before time.

It's a pity that you don't publish the IP addresses too.

I'm all for healthy debate, but there are one or two people on here that do nothing but slag off Dawlish. They don't even live here. They do not engage in intelligent debate, they ignore pertinent questions, they just copy and paste the same inane hatred left, right and centre.

Going to members only will also stop the perpertrators from impersonating other users.

I hope that common sense prevails and that you make the right decision for the sake of this forum and for the sake of Dawlish. People come to your excellent website from all around the country, but leave thinking the worst about the place because of the anti-Dawlish rantings/lies of one or two people.

Good luck Webmaster.

copy and paste the truth mr truth. there are many things you forget to mention to residents and tourists alike, with your selective memory. what are you so frightened of? it only goes around the world...

ps-am i allowed to use words others have used or will that be an amendment to council meeting rules?

I am not expecting everyone who signs up to be pro Dawlish, otherwise we would not get a healthy, balanced debate.

What concerns me more is the unnecessary hatred some users have for each other.

Its these types of posts that I am referring to. They have nothing to do with Dawlish and contribute nothing to this site.

a response to a hypocrite is fair.

But who cares? Who is interested in your personal grievances? This is a forum for public debate, not personal debate.

Webmaster. if this is really you, then contact us! you have our email addresses.

as it stands, i feel mr truth/chicken shed/joey deacon is posing as webmaster. so i will continue to expose these vermin.

Why do you think I put the green text in the original post? No one else has access to do this.

Also, email addresses are only recorded for users that sign up.

The above post and the most recent other one calling people "vermin" is exactly why this forum should be excluded to non-members.

I don't know how to post green text on here (as per the first post in this thread), so I for one am most definitely not "Webmaster".

I think the phrase that comes to mind is "hanging by ones own petard".

I would suggest that Webmaster merely has to edit your last post to prove who he is!

I agree with that fully.
Sign in would be better and yes put the ISP.
The main problem here is the poster that starts posts then replies to them! anyone who does reply to them will get a nasty response guaranteed. Easy to spot, see above, all start in lower case no caps.
Yes Webmaster. Sign in please anything to stop childish posts and bring sense back.
I dont think Dawlish Live will be able to boost an award as it is now.
They can still rattle on about Councils.
They live for em!

This thread started off with a simple question as to whether we should have compulsory sign in or not and has quickly shown that it is needed.

Hopefully this should now improve the quality of this forum for everyone.

Good call Webmaster. Will continue to expose the malfeasance of certain people who 'represent' us in our town.

Having posted for the first time yesterday, I have received already replies making irrelevant references to the council. I can see no problem with requiring people to sign in. At present, interesting material is buried within a landfill of rubbish.

What do you call irrelevant?

Comments about the council in reply to postings that have nothing to do with the council.

This is an excellent decision. I have not posted for a while as I was disgusted with some of the posts that were left on here by Anon. This should make this a really good forum now. Although looking at the replies that dullish is leaving for Don, I think that Anon/Roy and whatever other names Dullish used to post as will carry on what ever webmaster does.
Happy Days...

I think Mr Pearson is our chicken shed/joey deacon/mr truth. Why the reluctance? Do you think our Councillors are squeaky clean?

A good decision; at least people will have to take some responsibility for what they post instead of hiding behind 'Anon'

In reply to Karen Tracey Lollipop (is that really your name??!).

Hopefully people like yourself will come back on here and feel more inclined to post now that they know that every post isn't going to get submerged under a tidal wave of hatred from one person.

Well done to the Webmaster for making a very sensible decision.

Here's to some sensible debate on here about a wide variety of subjects and to some sensible answers to sensible queries.

This nonsense is why the forum has gone registration only. I'm obviously not another member on here, am I?

Can you please refrain from personal attacks on fellow members, as I'm sure that the webmaster has the power to ban members.

And no, I'm (still!!) not the webmaster!
