So how many people then treat a visit to the supermarket as a touristic day trip? Visit the supermarket and then go for a stroll along he beach/in the town? I don't think so. All the frozen food would thaw out and in the summer even the fresh food would suffer from the heat if left in a car for too long. Visit the beach/stroll in the town then go to the supermarket? Slightly more of a possibility ...

and what about the other shops in the town centre that aren't necessarily tourist orientated like; butcher, bakers, greengrocers, shoe shops, chemists, florists, Woolworths, 3 x convenience stores, newagents etc. They could all go to the wall and to be replaced with what?

And what about the town traders when the holiday makers aren't there (which is the vast majority of the time). What then? And anyways just because the holiday makers may go along the Strand and Brunswick doesn't mean that they will be buying other stuff, like food and drink, there. Your all obviously living in a dream world. I ...

Bradford was a bit of a disappointment, but It was my first job. I now live in Plymouth, but I was born in Dawlish and do miss it a bit, until I visit my parents & friends & then I get bored! I do intend ...

Hey, don't be too harsh - the guy has a point. Maybe sometimes we forget how lucky we are living in one of the nicest areas of the UK. Have you ever been up North ? There are horrible places like Bradford and Leeds where dog sh*t is the least of your worries. I should imagine that India & other third world countries have even worse problems. I am all for making the town perfect & maybe with a ...

I think the 'Ugly Ducking' name came from the fable by Hans Christian Anderson. I.e ugly duckling growing into a beautiful swan & Dawlish being associated with swans.
