Be grateful that you have a doctor - there have been reports that in some parts of the country doctors have closed their lists to new patients.
@leatash I saw all the feathers along the pavement and wondered what had happened.
This is well-known behaviour on the part of pied wagtails and also other small birds. They believe that there is safety in numbers and so roost together to foil hawks and owls and other predators. You can see them in trees in town centres like Torquay and cities such as Exeter where they also have the benefit of it being a few degrees warmer than the countryside.
Lynne is right about the weather being a factor in people not coming to the town, in fact I have heard people are going home mid-week from the camps because it's been so awful. The thing is, there's not very much to do in Dawlish when the weather's as bad as it's been recently, especially for families. I expect that Trago has been packing them in.
Unfortunately, I was away for most of the week and so missed the events but was back in time for the parade on Friday. Thought it was shorter than it has been in recent years but not too sorry about that as it was pretty draughty standing in Old Town St. Specially enjoyed the 'Rampage Mas' floats and dancers which brought a touch of the exotic to a dismal English summer. @majorp I think you mean Coryton Close, which as it is a highway is definitely the responsibility of Devon County Council.
The Tarka Trail is brilliant, especially enjoy the bit that goes from Mullacott Cross to Ilfracombe.
I lost count of the number of cyclists I saw on the road at the weekend, and most of them weren't even "club" cyclists. Well done to @DEEDOODLE for getting photographic evidence.

This sordid behaviour does nothing for Dawlish's reputation as a 'family friendly' town. Why all the talk about a play park when the last thing you want is the kids witnessing this kind of thing.
