And if a DAL were to be an option then that particular option might need to be thought about seriously now as there is an awful lot of house building that is due to take place in Dawlish and the route of the DAL and the location of that new house building could be ever so, ever so, close. Wouldn't want 'em building new houses only for those houses to have to be demolished in order for a DAL ...

Letter to AMM from Network Rail dated 1st April. Therefore predated the ICE lecture which took place early May. Totally agree local people need to be involved in final decision as to how the sea is kept at bay (sorry, terrible pun). The seawall walk is integral part of Dawlish's USP. For the seawall to lose its seaviews for those walking along it would be a terrible, terrible blow not only ...

The letter then goes on to say this with regard to alternative/additional inland routes; "We have also launched a wider study looking at the impact of the resilience issues of the route between Exeter and Plymouth. This study will provide an early indication of the viability of additional/alternative route alignments (including Tavistock) and this, combined with inputs from the study referenced ...

Okay this is the relevant bit from the letter. "With respect to the future improvement in resilience of the railway between Exeter St Davids and Newton Abbot my Route Assessment Team is currently commisioning a major Engineering Feasibility Study. This study has been initiated by the Route to assess a series of options to increase the Geo-Environmental Resilience between Exeter St Davids and ...

@Clive - I have a copy of a letter dated 1st april sent to our MP from Network Rail. In the letter NR outline the works and investigations they will be doing with regard to improving the resilience of the railway between Exeter St.Davids and Newton Abbot. NR say the study will take about 18 months to complete. 18 months - long time. Do I take it you were, or are, a civil engineer? From ...

"As regards Stagecoach ever counted how many fare paying passengers use the service?" Ah yes! That, oddly enough, is a plus for me whenever I travel by bus. I always feel so young.......... (and just to say the first digit of my age is a 6 so I ain't no spring chicken meself) And on the topic of town centre decline. Have a read of this (and the comments underneath the ...

@Margaret Swift - yes i know about the railcard. have had one virtually since we moved here. thing is though that i live a 15/20 minute walk or so from the rail station and the town. that seems nothing i know but it seemingly gets longer and longer (if you see what i mean) the older i get. by comparison the bus stops are but a 5 minute walk away. Don't mind that 15 walk so much in the summer ...

Seems we have some car boot competition at the Warren as........ The one that has been running at Warren Farm since about 2009 on a Thursday afternoon is running again this year. 3-6pm. They've now stopped charging pedestrians 30p entry but are charging cars an entry fee (don't know how much as I always walk) and I think they charge something like £8.00 per car for sellers. However , I ...

Perhaps geography has something to do with Minehead's succesful regeneration? Looking at a map of the north devon/north somerset area around Minehead it would seem that Minehead is the largest settlement for some distance (until Bridgewater/Taunton one way and then the settlements of Lynton/Ilfracombe/Barnstaple the other.) Dawlish isn't like that. It has the city of Exeter nearby(ish) to the ...
