Hello.  I have never been to your town but I found the attached picture postcard in my family papers and wanted to share it with you.  It is the beach in Dawlish circa 1916 (or earlier).  It was sent to my grandmother in 1916.  Given that it is about 100 years old and I found your site while trying to educate myself on the exact location of Dawlish (my grandmother lived overseas from you) and i see that you have some historic pictures on your site, I thought I might contribute this view to you.....you may have to scroll to get the full view.  BL

Thanks for sending the old photo of Dawlish in 1916. Appears to be a happier time even though a terrible war was raging

That is so lovely and to see all those people including children just chilling-out.

Many thanks for sending this to us. It is very interesting indeed.

IMO, I would say that by looking at the clothes/fashion, the photograph was taken before 1916 and before the start of WW1.

Well spotted.  I thought that was right (even today you often see postcards that look back to a bye gone era).  Hopefully it is of interest to someone in your town.
