After being pressed by South West Devon MP Gary Streeter, the Prime Minister backed the upgrade of transportation in the area which could see road and rail links in the region improved.

Plans are likely to be revealed in George Osborne’s Autumn Statement on December 3, with an upgrade of the A303 linking London and the South West and rail improvements at Dawlish leading contenders.

A number of road improvements, including the Kingskerswell bypass, have already been put in place. Our roads programme includes major and important work for the South West.

A promising sign.  However, for the sake of the west country as a whole, it would be helpful if other threads didn't keep beggaring one town against another with phrases like, 'the Plymouth mob'.

There is a fantastic window of opportunity to get some game changing improvements to Devon and Cornwall transport links.

Just go for it TOGETHER before the waters close over after the election and you then get palmed off with 'zippo' again.

Dawlish and Torbay could really benefit in many ways if they go for it.

Currently the Paignton - Exmouth local train off peak calls every hoiur at Dawlish at 50 min pass the hour.

If the line was put in place a loop service could mean, say, leave Plymouth on the half hour, this would mean trains would reach Dawlish at 20 mins pass the hour, and so with the Paignton line provide a half hourly service from Dawlish to Exeter all day. (plus main line trains that call). When the train reaches Exeter, it could be timed to leave at 57 pass the hour, as the Barnstaple line has been increased to hourly and leaves at 27 pass the hour, so Crediton would then benefit from a half hourly service.  Everyone would gain. Passengers could travel from/to Dawlish to Okehampton and Tavistock in any direection, clockwise or anti clockwise..

Sorry if that sounds a bit complcated but if you follow scheduling it should make sense...allows for 2hr 45/50 mins for complete journey time loop..

Wonder if it will happen though!
