Hi Fred.

Looks like a Buzzard.

Probably there as it is out of sight from other scavangers such as crows and the like.

Although the Buzzard is a larger bird, they tend to be scared of other birds such as crows.

Yup, Carer is right: certainly is a Buzzard.

They do get hassled a lot by crows, rooks etc.

Anyway, wouldn't you eat your picnic in the shade on a day like this ?

Could be a sparrow hawk, the same thing happened in the Manor last year, ignored everyone and carried on eating his pigeon

Sorry my friend, but not a Sparrowhawk. Wrong colours and markings and too big.

Never seen one so close up before,  is there a chance it maybe tame and someone has lost it. Did take more photos if anyone's interested but it was pretty dark under the tree and I wasent getting out the car. Didnt fancy being pecked by that. Buzzard eh, funny it was sat in a place thats usually full of them bigger Black Birds Crows or Rooks. There is usually dozens of them on the green at Langdon. Thanks for identifing it.

@ Fred

Have pulled up close to a Buzzard in the car many times and they are not at all bothered, but, when that car door opens up, that's a different story.

They don't hang around as soon as that happens.frown
